YWAM Responds to the Camp Fire

With the destructive wildfires that tore through parts of California YWAM bases came together to help the people who were affected by the fires. Here is a statement from YWAM Redding, which was one of the locations that was involved in the relief work …

As you may have heard, California’s deadliest and most destructive wildfire in state history, called the “Camp Fire” recently swept through Paradise, CA, just an hour and a half south of Redding. Sadly, it has taken over 70 lives, left over 1,000 still missing, and destroyed over 10,000 homes. Over the last week, YWAM Redding staff and students have spent hours manning a distribution center for the victims of the Fire with the collaboration of our YWAM Family. About a week ago, some leaders in our YWAM community had a deep desire to help the hurting community, and as they went around the city God gave them a practical solution: collect donations and give to those who have lost everything. The collecting and giving process that started out with 3 bags of clothes, turned very quickly into a whole parking lot full of organized items ready for Paradise residents to collect as needed, as well as multiple free of charge food vendors, portable bathrooms and full generator-run showers. We are now moved into an old Toys ‘R’ Us building and have plans to continue the center for another 6 months!

We still need your help! As of now, we have plenty of donations, what we need is for volunteers to give their time to sort, organize and be a part of the amazing donation process! We could use about 20 volunteers around the clock for the next couple of weeks. If you, or your church, or a group of friends are able/willing to give your time, we would love to have you! You can message YWAM Redding for more info, or feel free to just show up!

The best place to find out how you can get involved is to check out the YWAM Redding Facebook Page and the YWAM Chico Facebook page. From there you can see a few different ways that you can get involved …

Fountain of Life

The Fountain of Life ministry works to help solve the problems of a lack of access to safe water, poor basic sanitation, and improper personal hygiene. It does this through a novel approach with a focus on three different areas:

  1. Education
  2. Appropriate Technology
  3. Multiplication

One of the characteristics that really stands out to me with this ministry is their commitment to making the use of appropriate technology to be be central to what they do. Their solutions are effective, accessible, low-cost, and easy to implement. They drill wells using locally sourced materials, local craftsmen, with simple to understand and inexpensive to repair pumps.

Check out the Fountain of Life web-site at fountainoflife.org.uk to find out more about about their ministry into Africa, and different ways that you can get involved.

Physically there is also training in running, football (called soccer in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the USA), and fitness. Forming a sports club at one of the Brussels’ main parks, in between parliament buildings, European expats, and refugees.
