Stories:

Military Coup in Burma

Back in February the democratically elected government in Burma / Myanmar was replaced by the nations military. Since then there have been many people killed and the army is attacking many Karen areas. This has lead to thousands of civilians being displaced and having to hide in the forest. Some of these groups are being shelled by the military and are running for their lives.

There are over 5000 Internally Displaced People (IDPs) known to be hiding in the forests at this time. The people are trying to flee to refugee camps in Thailand, but those camps and the boarder are closed off. As the fighting continues in the cities the number of IDPs and refugees is only increasing.

Right now there are four new refugee camps forming close to the Thai / Burmese border. Australian Mercy, a ministry of Youth With A Mission, can not get aid into the cities at the time because of the violence happening there, but they can get aid into the IDP camps forming on the boarder.

On the Australian Mercy web-site you can see what is needed to meet the needs of the Internally Displaced People. The needs include food, clothing, medicines, and basic aid. The people are desperate, and the situation there is getting worse, please take the time to pray and consider how you can help …

Youth With A Mission has many opportunities to reach out with the gospel to the Muslim World. You can find many of those opportunities on the global YWAM web-site, ywam.org.

Gleaning for the Hungry Summer 2021 Plans

Gleanings for the Hungry is a mercy ministry of Youth With A Mission with a mission to feed the hungry of the world, both physically and spiritually. A large part of fulfilling their mission is the procurement and production of shelf-stable food. In the summer, they dry peaches and nectarines that are not pristine enough for sale. Year round, they produce a dehydrated soup mix, mostly from donated products.

Everything they produce is given free of charge to partner ministries around the world, to be distributed in impoverished areas, with the love of Jesus. and they are starting to gear up for the new 2021 season …

You can visit gleanings.org to find out more about their food distribution ministry …

YWAM Frontier Missions – Disciple Making Movements

During last year, and coming into this year, a lot of how YWAM has done it’s training has had to change because of COVID-19, and the many restrictions that have been brought about because of it. One of the ways that it has changed is that many YWAM locations have developed online training resources.

One of these online courses that is coming up in July is the Getting Started in Disciple Making Movements course, being offered by YWAM Frontier Missions. This online course will be run from July 7 – October 7 and will help you go from potentially feeling confused, busy, and overwhelmed by the task of reaching the unreached, to feeling inspired, hopeful, and full of faith that God is able to multiply disciples through you.

The course will work to help you to:

  • Develop a step by step faith-filled plan for prayer saturation,
  • Discover simple, but proven, evangelism strategies
  • Find local influencers (Persons of Peace).
  • Learn to stay focused on what key fruitful activities
  • Start your first Disciple-Making group.

If you head on over to their web-site, ywamfm.org, you can find out more about the course and find out how you can enrol and participate.

YWAM Budapest

Even during the Soviet communist era YWAM was sending short term teams into Hungary to pray and discretely distribute Gospel literature. The first YWAMers to make their home in Hungary was in the late 80’s, and with the fall of communism in 1989 YWAM began to send teams to pray, connect with pastors, and seek open doors for the Gospel. They have been operating continually in the nation since then, and this some of what they are currently engaged in …

Coffee

One of the things that myself, and probably many other people in YWAM, can attribute to our time in ministry in a love, and possible addiction, to coffee. For me it started when I first started staffing the discipleship training school, in addition to working in other ministry areas like communication and IT. Since then my taste has become a bit more refined, much less instant coffee, and coffee ministry has really opened the doors for communication at many locations around the world. This includes the coffee ministry that YWAM Budapest runs …

The location that I did my DTS at was located in Townsville, Australia. Like me, they have become a lot more refined in the coffee that they offer, and last year they even opened a coffee shop in the centre of the city.

They are definitely alone in combining ministry and coffee, as we hear from YWAM Lakeside, Montana:

YWAM Hernut in Germany is another ministry wanting to expand their coffee ministry into the community:

YWAM in the Gold Coast of Australia runs a coffee van outreach to the people in their community:

I’m sure there are many other locations around the world that are also combining coffee and ministry. I went over to ywam.org and did a search for “coffee” and it came up with 73 programs and places around the ministry. I’m sure that not all of them, but it is fun to see some of what God is doing.

Theology and Coffee

With all of our talk about coffee in this episode I want to highlight a recent study done by our friends over at the Babylon Bee. The results of the study was that they found that the stronger the coffee, the more sound the theology.

While the specific study was in relation to churches, it wouldn’t be out of the question to say that there is most likely also a correlation at YWAM Centres around the world where the stronger the coffee, the more sound the theology …
