Couples Retreat Malaga, Spain

Language and Leadership Course

YWAM Chaing Rai is offering a new course on Language and Leadership starting on June 9 of this year. It is a 40-week, 9 1/2 month, long course designed for YWAM staff and students who have a desire to serve long term as missionaries to Thailand. there will be about 7 1/2 months spent in Thailand including training and local outreach, followed by an 8-week outreach to another country.

The main focus of the school will be:

• Acquiring another language
• Training and practice in leadership
• Doing outreach locally and abroad
• Personal growth

Marine Reach Ministries Medical Team in Albania

Marine Reach Ministries based in the UK are currently on outreach in Albania. They have been partnering with the Youth With A Mission location in Elbasan in the centre of the Roma Gypsy community.

During the first two weeks there the team has been running a dental clinic at the YWAM Elbasan centre. They have been overrun by the needs of the people there during these two weeks. They have been treating children and adults alike, and also providing tooth brushes and education about proper dental care.

They team has also been able to visit a local mental institution during both weeks to help with the many needs there.

During the second week of outreach the team has also been doing eye screening for cataract surgery. They have found numerous possible candidates for the surgery. The next outreach that the team will embark on will be focused on Ophthalmology, and the process has now been started for these candidates to regain their eyesight.

While performing the dental and eye screening the team came across other illnesses like high blood pressure and diabetes. Although not planned, nurses from the team have been able to provide health advice and education to help the patients deal with their conditions.

YWAM Ship MV Pacific Link has Arrived in Papua New Guinea

The YWAM Ship MV Pacific Link that is based out of Townsville, Australia has arrived in Papua New Guinea to begin it’s six-month medical missions trip. While in PNG the staff, students, and volunteers from the ship will be helping with many different needs:

The Pacific Hope Preparing for First Medical Outreach to Palawan Island

After having been in the port for a bit of a refit the new YWAM Ship the MV Pacific Hope is heading to Palawan Island in the Philippines for their first outreach. They are partnering with the local Lions organisation for this outreach.

While the ship has been in port they have replaced or repaired cooling units on the ship, stripped and repainted the top side of the vessel and much more…

Global Outreach Day

25 May 2013 is Global Outreach Day. The idea is that millions of people around the world would go out on that day and share Christ to their friends, family, and community. This is not a YWAM event, but rather an idea to mobilise the entire Church, every single believer, to step out in obedience to God to reach the lost.

YWAM Blantyre Jesus Film Outreach

YWAM Blantyre in Malawi is engaging with the people in their community regularly, in many different ways. The staff have been working in the region and they have seen many good relationships built, commitments made to God, and miracles. Here is a quote from a recent outreach to show the Jesus Film in a local village:

Last night we took our two visiting teams out to show the Jesus Film. God presence was powerful. 150 made commitments. A teenager unable to see clear enough to read since birth received his sight. An old lady bent over could straighten as the team prayed. One young girl was powerfully deliver and after many more healings we returned rejoicing.

YWAM Blantyre is also running a well drilling seminar in July of 2013. The course will introduce students to the fundamentals of drilling for clean, safe, drinking water by the use of simple hand tools. The eight weeks will be split between hands on training in the field, including drilling several well, and discussion time in the classroom.

• One is a family camp with YWAM Denmark 20 – 27th to July, in need of male leaders, they will also go on an outreach possibly to Tallinn the week after.
• The other is leadership for a team trip to Serbia from YWAM France (we have a Norwegian there sent from Grimerud) 5th – 21st of July.

YWAM Constanta, Romania Aquaponics Project

In the last few episodes of the YWAM News Podcast we have discussed a few different sustainable projects that YWAM has been engaged in around the world. In episode 55 we talked about the Food Machine, which is being installed at three different YWAM locations, and on the last episode we talked about the reforestation project in Tanzania that YWAM is involved in.

YWAM Constanta in Romania is also working on a project to help provide themselves with a more sustainable food source. They are currently in the process of building an aquaponics system to help provide them with food in a cheap and sustainable manner. In addition to building the system for their own use they desire to teach and train other people and organisations how to do it as well.

New IPO Connection Training Course

The Student Mobilisation Centre is also launching a new, online, Internship Placement and Outreach course. The course is being taught using CourseSites by Blackboard, an online platform for organizing and securely sharing course materials, online lectures, discussion and other learning activities. Students from anywhere may sign up to join projects serving communities in need of help around the world.

YWAM America’s Staff Gathering

Last month YWAMers from North and South America gathered together in Panama to hear what God had to say and do during their time together. There were about 300 people there from North, South and Central America.

The four day gathering included the fir st and fourth day together as an entire continent, and the second and third day split into the different districts or countries.

Community Development Seminar at YWAM Madison

YWAM Madison will be running a Community Development Seminar from August 19 – 30. The focus of the seminar will be on how basic necessities like food, water, clothing, shelter and health care can be provided for all people. They will look at a gaining a Biblical understanding of poverty and underdevelopment, and see what steps are needed to address these issues.

YWAM Megacities Next Target City – Kolkata, India

Our next Megacity is now announced! Kolkata, capital of the Indian state of West Bengal and located on the east bank of the Hooghly river, is East India’s principal commercial, cultural, and educational centre. Kolkata was established by the East India Company and was regarded as the second city of the British Empire after London. The urban agglomeration of Kolkata and its suburbs is home to approximately 14.1 million, making it the 3rd most metropolis area in India. As a growing metropolitan city in a developing country, Kolkata has substantial urban pollution, traffic congestion, poverty, overpopulation, and other socio-economic problems.

What is Megacities?

The Kolkata Football League is the oldest (soccer) league in Asia and one of the oldest in the World. It was started by the British in 1898.

YWAM Kickoff 2014

Although the Football (soccer) Worldcup isn’t until 2014 the YWAM Kickoff World Cup 2014 outreach is starting to gear up for their first outreach. In June Brazil will be hosting the FIFA 2013 Confederations Cup, which is viewed by many as a test drive for the Wordcup next year. The Kickoff team will also be using the Confederations Cup as a dress rehearsal of their own with plans for evangelism, prayer corners, sports camps, and more being planned for the event.

The FIFA Worldcup will be the main event, with a desire for teams to come from all over the world to join in this major outreach.

For the main event during the FIFA Worldcup Kickoff 2014 is wanting to mobilise 64,000 missionaries from around the world to join in the event at any of the different host locations. The focus areas for the outreach are:

• Prayer
• Social Justice
• Youth and Children
• General missions and Service
• Sports

Rugby Plus Program in Fiji

In addition to YWAM Hockey that we talked about on the last YWAM Podcast, another exciting way that YWAM has been using sports as a tool for discipleship and evangelism is the Rugby Plus Program in Fiji.

The program consists of a workshop that includes guest speakers, coaches, players and pastors. The participants receive spiritual, physical and mental training during the workshop. They addressed a few specific issues such as anger management, sportsmanship, player productivity and team bonding.

YWAM’s University of the Nations Workshop 2013

The University of the Nations will be hosting their 2013 workshop in San Antonio Del Mar, Mexico from September 3 – September 8, 2013. Here is a letter from the International UofN President, Markus Steffen:

This gathering is for everyone involved in the ministry of equipping, training, educating and discipling towards the fulfillment of the Great Commission. The times we are living in are filled with amazing opportunities. It is truly a season to EXPAND Intimacy and Impact to see much more of God’s purposes unfold in our personal lives, families, communities and nations. The Workshop is about meeting with God in prayer, worship, celebration and His Word. It is also about strengthening our relationships and networking to see Intimacy and Impact EXPAND.

The content of the program and daily schedule has a lot of variety and optional sessions to serve the needs of the participants in the best possible way. The University of the Nation is the training branch or arm of Youth With a Misison and the workshop is geared towards anyone in YWAM that is involved in discipleship, equipping, training and education.

The workshop will include daily bible studies, worship and discussions as well as keynotes each day from the leaders of the mission. There will also be workshops and seminars based around the different centres and colleges in the UofN.

Another fun event that will no doubt be a highlight for many of the attendees there will also be a YWAM Footback World Cup (soccer) tournament running through the week.

YWAM Canada Go Conference

YWAM Canada will be hosting a Go Conference October 14 – 18 at the Gull Lake Centre near Lacombe, Alberta. The Go Conference is an:

… action-packed week of learning about the nations of the world and responding to God in worship and intercession for the least reached. The Lord of the Harvest is inviting us to join Him in what He’s doing. Special speakers, intercession for the unreached, interactive displays and a variety of workshops are only a few of the activities on this year’s schedule.

The conference is geared towards YWAM staff and students, as well as friends of YWAM and people with a heart for missions. There is a special track that will be running during the conference geared specifically towards DTS students called “Missions 101″. There will also be a cultural fair, topical workshops, and a kids program for kids between the age of 4 – 10.

Mission Possible 2013

One of our main goal with Mission Possible is to equip and send international missionaries from all over the world to the remaining unreached people groups of the world and see the Kingdom of God come in love and in power, through both preaching and practically living out the gospel of Christ among every tribe, nation and tongue.

Each culture reflects the glory of God in it’s own unique fashion. We don’t desire to see cultures changed or westernized, but rather want to bring Kingdom culture to every people group and allow the Holy Spirit to transform lives, bringing hope and freedom to those who have been living in bondage for centuries. Love looks like something in each culture.

We want to release a new breed of missionaries to discover what the love of Christ looks like in every nation and be the hands of feet of Jesus to them.

Uniskript Lingua Surge

We introduced you to Uniskript on episode 59 of the YWAM Podcast. Basically it is a script based writing system that is easy to learn and read, even for cultures who have never had a written expression of their own language.

Running from July 5 – September 18, UofN Kona is running the Uniskript Lingua Surge school. The school will be run like an academic conference, with professionals from different backgrounds including:

The 12-week course will be followed up by a 36-week field assignment among small people groups whose language is yet to be written, and that don’t have the Bible. The goal of the field assignment will be to develop new alphabets and literacy material for each target language / people group in order to help facilitate Bible translation.

Foundations of Community Development School

YWAM Harpenden will be running a Foundations of Community Development School from September 23. 2013 – March 13, 2014. The course has three months of lectures, followed by a three month field assignment.

The Foundations in Community Development School provides an overview of the issues involved in helping communities (rural or urban) grow and be transformed towards God’s intentions. It focuses on a Biblical understanding of the root causes of poverty and underdevelopment and the strategies needed to enable people to find their own solutions. Christians have a vital role to play in facilitating sustainable development that is about changing communities by restoring the broken relationships between people, between ‘man’ and God, and between ‘man’ and creation, and in demonstrating an integral approach that addresses all areas of life; physical, social, and spiritual. The key is people – transformed hearts, minds, and lives; transformed communities, societies, and nations. The glory of God declared and demonstrated.

The Effects of Extreme Isolation

In episode 57 of the YWAM Podcast we talked about two of YWAM’s sailing vessels focussing on the area of Micronesia for their outreach efforts. While it may be hard for us to understand how isolated these places are, and how hard it is on the people on those islands, I kind of started to grasp it while reading one of the more recent updates from the YWAM Ships OC web-site:

One thing that hit me like a brick after talking to nurses here today, in addition to all the others experiencing problems with transportation, is the direct effect on access to medical care.  Not having ships is the single largest limitation for people receiving available treatment.  Every conversation I had with dentists, nurses, medical assistants, the TB nurse, the public health nurse, all of them explained the reason they cannot treat people is that they cannot get to Christmas Island from Fanning and Washington even if they are sick.  The boat only goes a couple of times a year.  So, if someone is sick they have to survive somehow on their isolated island.  Even if they managed get to Christmas Island for treatment, they can¹t get home again for 3 or more months and the hospital has to pay them money for them to live on while the wait and wait for the next ship.

YWAM Hockey Still In Need of Volunteers

YWAM Hockey is still in need of a goalie and 2 – 3 more players for the Hockey Summer Of Service, as well as local volunteers to help with the camps in Calgary, Prince George and Kelowna.

The Hockey Summer of Service runs from July 10 – August 10 and involves serving in different areas of the hockey camps, including on ice and off ice activities.

The Friends House – YWAM Germany

Last year, through a lot of relational and social media effort, Youth With A Mission Germany won a free prefab house for their ministry. Although the building itself is free, the fit out and erection of the house is not.

The YWAM centre has decided to fit out the building to accommodate 12 people and also found the ideal location on their property for the new building.

In order to simply erect the shell of the house they are needing to raise 30,000 euros and then to finish the fit out of the building they will need an additional 50,000 euros on top of that. Despite these expenses the YWAM Centre is still feeling extremely blessed that at the end of it they will have a 150 square metre house for around 80,000 EUR.

Visual Arts for Missions (VAM) School

Visual Arts for Missions (VAM) is a training school that focuses on integration of visual art techniques with a cross cultural focus, to produce & multiply evangelistic resources for unreached peoples. It will be starting on May 15 and run for six-months, with the initial lecture phase taking place in Chaing Mai, Thailand.

YWAM Orlando will be running their next School of Ministry Development (SOMD) starting in September. The course is meant to prepare the student to be on staff with YWAM anywhere in the world, and also to help equip them to serve in a local chuch setting.

The school focuses on seeing people grow in personal character, practical skills, and motivation do whatever it takes for as long as it takes to serve God in full-time ministry.

French/English Language Learning Intensive

YWAM Lausanne will be hosting a four week language intensive course from August 26 – September 20 of this year. The intensive seminar will allow students to build their confidence and conversational fluency to help them share their faith more effectively in either English or French.

The course will include daily lectures and exercises from professional instructors, fields trips to local sites for practical application, interactive classroom participation, access to a language learning lab and a multi-cultural environment where students can practice their new skills.

YWAM Boston Responds to the Marathon Bombing

In the days following the bombing at the Boston Marathon YWAM Boston was out running prayer stations around the city for the city and the people in it. Teams were sent out all over the city including Boston Common, Downtown Crossing, Brigham Women’s Hospital, Harvard and the Central Square to bring prayer and hope to the people.

A  message to the people of Boston from John 14:27:

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

YWAM Boston Completing their Ministry Centre

From now until the end of July YWAM Boston is making a push to complete the renovations of their ministry centre. Mission Builders International is working with them to make this possible and they are needing people to help with the following trades:

• Carpenters
• Tile mason or fitters to lay ceramic tiles in the bathrooms
• Plumbers to install the bathroom fixtures
• Cleaners
• Sheet-rockers (taping, mudding, finishing)

YWAM Argentina Outreach to the Flood Victims

On April 2 floods devistated the city of La Plata in Argentina. An estimated 350,000 inhabitants and about 58,000 homes were affected by the floods. This is the equivalent of about a quarter of the cities dwellings.

Teams of YWAM Argentina toured some neighbourhoods of La Plata to be solidarity with the neighbours who lost everything by the flood on April 2. There we were… lending a hand, a word, a hug, a prayer… serving.

Outreach Cafe Opens in Thai Red Light District

“Zion Cafe is open for business! The Thailand team has been working hard the last two weeks to get this “business as a mission” up and running. Zion Cafe is located in the heart of the red light district. This business supports the ministries that reach out to the bar girls, college students, children in slums, and remote villages!”

inTouch Camps in Europe this summer

The inTouch ministry is setting up their summer schedule for the inTouch camps this year. inTouch camps are meant to be a blessing to all ages who have served or continue to serve in YWAM, plus their families, friends, supporters, partners, churches, etc.

in­Touch Camps fea­ture a daily programme starting each morning with worship  this is followed by teaching from YWAM speakers  On most camps a parallel Children’s Programme is run. After a delicious lunch, there’s time to relax, have fun and explore the local attractions. An informal programme takes place in the evenings. in­Touch Camps are completely bi-lingual: English plus the local language (= French in Switzer­land).

There will be six camps run this year, featuring speakers like Dean Sherman, Markus Egli, Edwin Fillies and Paul and Geneviève Marsh. They will be happening:

Word By Heart School – UofN Kona

“Word By Heart” is a three month training environment that will change your life.

You will learn a Gospel word for word the exact words of Scripture. You won’t do this by rote i.e. pounding words into your head until it hurts. Rather you will get to see behind the stories to actually experience what was going on. The stories will become so real to you that you will be an eyewitness. YWAM Thailand Outreach to Africa

YWAM Thailand is excited that they were able to send their first outreach team to Africa last month where they visited Ethiopia and Tansania. Here is an excerpt from one of the reports they gave from their outreach:

When we arrived at the Ethiopian airport, the director of the YWAM base there greeted us. He took us back to the base where we settled in for the night. After a much needed sleep, the next day, Girum Fantaye (our translator) took us to a feeding center for men and boys. Our team was honored to share Thai worship songs and dances and also had opportunity to share about God through the use of skits. We became very thankful for our translator!

Throughout the trip we went to many places similar to the feeding center. We visited more centers for women, children and men who have come from severe life situations. We even got to go to Mother Teresa’s HIV orphanage. I fell in love with the cutest and chubbiest little toddler. I now pray for her often and have hopes to be able to adopt her some day.

At these centers, God showed me how different he created each person to be and why. I believe it is to teach us how to give and bless others, how to live, and how to be aware of others’ needs no matter where we are or what we are doing.

Church Pioneering School

YWAM Kansas City is offering a 6-week school about Church Pioneering starting in June.The 6-weeks of lectures will be followed up by a 6-month to 2-year outreach to a nation in the 10/40 window, with a goal of establishing or strengthening churches in the nation. The school is open to anyone, even if you have not completed a YWAM Discipleship Training School.

Golfing for YWAM in Newcastle and Colorado Springs

YWAM Emerge and YWAM Strategic Frontiers have partnered up to put on a high quality golf tournament at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. The Broadmoor consists of several private courses, and the YWAM Golf Tournament will be held on the West Course this year.

The tournament will be help on June 10th, 2013 and you can register and find out more at www.ywamgolf.com.

YWAM Newcastle recently help a 100-hole Golf Marathon to raise money for their warehouse facility. They managed to raise around $20,000 for the development and had a lot of fun in the process. Here is a response from Stu Brown, one of the participants in the event:

I was truly impressed with Jack Narvel’s organisation of the whole event and I believe he and Jan have pioneered a new way for YWAM Newcastle to raise finances for what God is doing through them in the city. This kind of event is so unique and definitely engages a different demographic to any other that YWAM would come in contact with. With NBN television coverage, corporate and personal sponsors, and the new connections with Shortland Waters Golf Course, the golf marathon has increased community and corporate relationships and made way for this event and others to continue each year.

I can’t wait for the 2014 YWAM 100 hole golf Marathon!

YWAM Herrnhut has Expanded to Florida!

YWAM Herrnhut in Germany is launching a new training location in Venice, Florida. It will be once of the few German language discipleship training schools outside of Germany, and the only one I can find in either North or South America.

YWAM Herrnhut is doing this expansion for two reasons:

1. They are outgrowing their Water Castle in Herrhut, Germany
2. To attract German speakers into their ministry

Uniskript - a revolutionary linguistic innovation

Uniskript is opening doors for understanding of the written word in cultures around the world. Starting with languages from Asia, the Pacific and tribal languages in the jungles of Brazil, these script based writing systems are easy and quick to learn – even for verbal only cultures who have never had written expressions of their own languages. Instead of requiring months and years to learn to read, Uniskript makes it possible for beginners to read simple phrases in a matter of hours and become fluent far faster than with traditional “iconic” (like Japanese) or “phonographic” writing systems (like English, French, etc.).

YWAMConnect.com Shutting Down Service

The YWAMConnect.com service that was widely adopted and used by YWAM Ministries around the world is being shut down at the end of April 2013. The donation part of the web-site has already been shut down, with staff and ministries needing to find alternative ways to receive donations.

DNA Infusion

YWAM Norway will be hosting a YWAM DNA Unfusion conference from June 2 – June 14, 2013 at their centre in Grimerud. The idea behind this leadership event it to better equip leaders to lead YWAM into the future according to the ways of God.

We will consider God’s words to YWAM, and the values and principles of our unique calling, making sure that these remain the foundations for all we become. “DNA” refers to these genetics of our “mission tribe”, which are essential for YWAM to continue multiplying healthily. As well as our YWAM DNA, every leader must have personal character and a biblical understanding of leadership.

DNA Infusion is led by Darlene Cunningham, YWAM’s co-founder. Whenever possible, Loren will join her. David Hamilton, University of the Nation’s Vice President for Strategic Innovation, has served over 30 years in YWAM leadership, pioneering and innovation. He and Darlene will share most of the teaching.

M/V Pacific Hope on the way to the Philippines

Some more information about the ship and the plans for it…

The M/V Pacific Hope was built in Japan as a Marine Training vessel and is ideally suited for humanitarian work across the South Pacific. Its shallow draft allows it to enter small lagoons and rivers in order to reach the most isolated and poorest communities. The vessel is fifty four (54) meters long and weights 450 GRT’s. It can carry up to seventy (70) people and 155 cubic meters of humanitarian and emergency relief supplies. It has a cruising range of 20,000 miles. The vessel is equipped with two medical surgeries with volunteer medical teams concentrating on dental and cataract surgeries.

Crewed entirely by volunteers the M/V Pacific Hope will operate out of the Port of Tauranga and Port Vila in Vanuatu. The vessel is expected to concentrate its activities in Vanuatu, Fiji, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea in the coming years.

The vessel will arrive in the Philippines on the 2nd of April 2013 for a two-month stay before making its way back to New Zealand, via the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and Fiji. The vessel is expected to arrive in New Zealand around mid July 2013. The vessel will not only carry healthcare professionals but also “Mission Reach Teams” from local churches and youth groups in New Zealand who wish to send short term missions teams to a developing nation in the South Pacific. YWAM Arusha Tree Planting and Environmental Conservation Projects

Youth With A Mission Arusha in Tanzania, Africa is working with local communities on the reforestation of the land. Deforestation has decimated many areas of the country and has contributed to food shortages and more…

Translation from local community leaders on the video:

I visited those trees. We got more than 4,000 seedlings in 2005 and now more than 2000 trees are doing well.

This means that more than half of all the trees we were given survived. When you plant three trees and two have survived, that is really encouraging.

There are some NGO’s that have been helping us and they are very close to my location and even Maklat Division.

Youth With A Mission has been helping our community and they have given us seedlings and the community has received them.

YWAM School of Biblical Studies (SBS)

The Youth With A Mission School of Biblical Studies started being run in YWAM in 1977. Since then the school has been run about 500 times with between 7000 and 10,000 students having been trained during the course. The school is currently being offered in around 40 different locations including Kings Lodge, which produced that video.

YWAM Responds to the New Pope Francis

M/Y Pacific Hope in Dry Drock Preparing for Sailing to the Philippines

After Marine Reach New Zealand purchased the Rosa Rugosa they dry docked the vessel for painting and other maintenance in preparation for the maiden voyage to the Philippines.

Tuesday mid-day (NZ Time) the M/Y Pacific Hope will come out of dry-dock and into the water. Wednesday, all going well, the crew will sail her out of Japanese water headed to the first port of Call….Manila Philippines. Please be praying for the crew as they launch…Christen…and sail the ship.

Caribbean Reach passed through the Panama Canal

Saturday March 16 the MV Caribbean Reach passed through the first set of locks on it’s way through the Panama Canal. The ship is on it’s way to Hawaii where it will meet up with a team and be deployed to Micronesia. Micronesia is the most isolated area of Oceania and is consequently the most impoverished. The strategy is to forward position both vessels, & deploy University of the Nation’s teams on board for a month at a time throughout the year, targeting the most isolated.

The teams will be  comprised of YWAM DTS field assignments along with specific skilled volunteers embedded among them.  The skilled volunteer crew range from doctors, dentists, opticians, news reporters, mid wives, water specialists, sports ministry personalities, spiritual leadership teachers and bible trainers

Reaching Out to Persecuted Christians in Pakistan

The now nearly empty neighbourhood of Joseph Colony was looted and the homes of 250 families and at least two churches were torched. It is reported that hundreds of Bibles were also burned. The hostile emotions leading to this destruction were stirred up after a young Muslim man alleged that his long-time Christian friend had committed blasphemy …

Around three hundred families have been affected by the destruction of property; people are destitute and going hungry. The government has promised that funds to repair homes will be allocated and that they will compensate each family up to $5,000. In the meantime, families are growing more desperate, wandering aimlessly around the shells of their burned out and looted homes. In the immediate aftermath of the attack, people took shelter with other families at night, themselves living below the breadline; now they have been moved into a tent city.

YWAM Pakistan Relief and Development has had experience in responding to the needs of disaster victims. They were part of the response to the 2005 earthquake, and the 2010/11 floods. At various times, they have offered assistance to persecuted Christians in scattered villages and colonies in Punjab and Sindh, the two largest provinces of the nation. As a result of this experience, YWAM has good collaborative relationships in the region, and is working with others to deliver immediate aid to bring stability and security to the minority Christians currently accommodated in tents.

YWAM Pakistan is also involved in long-term development, seeking to educate and train future leaders within this minority group. They are researching long-term development solutions, such as the founding of a school and leadership training for children and young people.

Updated Review of the Jesus Film App

After playing with the Jesus Film App for a bit longer I realised that all I had to do was click on the button with the down pointing arrow. At that point I was offered the option to download a small or large version of the movie. Once downloaded the film was available for viewing even when I was off-line.

I would very highly recommend this app for any team going on outreach if you want to use the resources that are available. Just to review, the videos that are available are:

Jesus Film Media Mobile App

Through the robust search feature users have the ability to find our resources by country, language name, theme, and title of the film. You will have access to films in over 1,100 languages!

Featuring the films JESUS, Magdalena, The Story of Jesus for Children in full length and segments; the series Following Jesus and Walking with Jesus and catalog of short films like My Last Day.

After testing the app there is no easy way to download the videos, the only way I could find to download them and have them available while off-line is to watch each full video. A “download” without watching option would be nice, but if you are going a location and the Jesus film is available in that language it would be worth watching the video so that you could then have access to it when you are not online.

YWAM Kona produced a new worship album that you can download

The album Send – Circuit Riders // Live // Kansas City (with Digital Book) was recorded live in Kansas City in 2012 at the School of the Circuit Rider. It was recorded at the International House of Prayer with hundreds of people in attendance for a time of teaching, worship, evangelism and training.

April 17 – 19 at Holmsted Manor

Are you coming to the DTS Network Meeting April 17, 18th and 19th April at Holmsted Manor? We hope to identify other training needs, how we can support each other and generally how DTS’s can connect across Europe.

2-Week Mission Adventure in Iceland

YWAM Iceland has been engaging in outreach at the yearly Iceland National Festival in the Westmann Islands for the past few years. During the festival the YWAM team runs a hospitality tent where people can come and chat, grab a cup of coffee, receive prayer and find some peace in an otherwise wild event.

The outreach runs from July 27 – August 5th and includes a week of preparation and then four days at the festival. You can find out more about the outreach opportunity here.

Hello Friends, we want to share with you some of our plans for 2013.

The Lord has blessed us with 1.5 acre of land, along the road leading to the international airport. But this land need to be developed, we are paying too much on rent and we can’t continue this any more. We always take the last quarter of the year raising money for our rent.

The estimated cost of the first building was put to $50,000, but we have decided now to use some local materials for the construction of the first two buildings (Residential and Administrative). So, with this new development  we will be able to use the same amount to construct two of the buildings. We need $10,000 to start the foundation for the two building in November 2013.

YWAM Blantyre in Malawi

Food delivery to deliver Maize to orphans and people suffering from HIV. YWAM Blantyre has an HIV support centre in a rural mountain village called Mancama. There has recently been rain in Malawi and although it is desperately needed, it makes transportation dangerous and the need for such food supply trips even more vital.

Mozambique Helicopter Rescue

“I heard a South African Air Force (SAAF) Oryx helicopter on the same radio frequency as us, so I asked him if they were equipped with a winch and able to come to our GPS position. That first rescue was of two women we found trying to swim through the strong brown current, holding on for dear life to a closed plastic bucket containing their belongings. The helicopter winch operation was a success and their lives were saved.

“Now we continued scouting for more groups of survivors, directing the SAAF helicopter to the exact locations to rescue them. Some families we found had climbed into trees and I wondered how long had they been there, waiting for help.

“Continuing the search, we hovered slow and low over the muddy flood waters, not wanting to miss anyone. The hard fact keeps hitting me that we must have missed people who might have been rescued. I feel guilty about that; I pray they are found tomorrow. Government boats are still continuing their search and rescue.

“In this short operation with SAAF, over just one afternoon, we saved more than 20 people: women with children on their backs, some men, and several weak and elderly people. During the 30 second turn-around time, every time we were on the ground, many children came to us with waving hands, asking to be flown away too.

YWAM Asia / Pacific will be having their staff field gathering in Chang Mai, Thailand from May 21 – May 28. Included with the staff conference will be the Call2All congress and the YWAM Thailand 40th Anniversary Celebration.

During the conference speakers like Loren and Darlene Cunningham will be sharing about what God is doing in the mission and how you can be involved in greater ways.

YWAM York is looking at expanding and getting a new training and hospitality centre in the centre of the city of York. The place they are looking at is a 17-bedroom guest house that would be used for hospitality and as a training facility for the ministry.

YWAM Hockey in Canada was featured on the NHL.com web-site

One big difference between YWAM Hockey and other hockey organization is that YWAM Hockey is run by volunteers, including my wife and I,” Bueckert said. “Because we are volunteers, the main motive for us is that we love kids and we love hockey. We want to give kids the opportunity to experience a hockey camp. Our bottom-line motive is not financial, it’s because we love the kids.

YWAM DTS Re-entry – 100 Days Project

One of the challenging things with completing a YWAM Discipleship Training School is the process called “Re-Entry”. This defines the time and experience of entering back into your previous situation after completing the 6-month school, and it can be challenging in many ways.

To help with the transition The YWAM Canada DTS Centre has developed a new program called “The 100 Days Project”. It is designed to guide DTS grads through the steps of transition, helping them “connect the dots” of their DTS experience, creating a bridge between the DTS and life at home.

The idea is that there would be daily 20-minute “focus sessions” that will include:

• Scripture reading
• Short reflection articles
• Questions to think about
• Action points
• Interaction / Conversation with other DTS students

Jim Dawson Passed Away

Finally we want to pay tribute to Jim Dawson, who passed away this weekend. Jim Dawson was a founding member of the YWAM International Council in 1972 and was involved with many international, national and local leadership roles in Youth With A Mission. Jim was the husband to Joy Dawson and father to Jill and John Dawson.

  • People are currently accommodated in temporary wood cabins. As the ministry has grown they have put together a master plan for the property and have started to build permanent housing.

  • YWAM Medellin has finally established a permanent home for some of the children that they are caring for.
