YWAM Amacet – Soroti, Uganda
YWAM Amacet have been working in Soroti, Uganda for almost 20-years. Their ministry is focused on serving three specific groups of children:
- HIV infected and affected children.
- New born babies, who lost their mother after the delivery.
- Children who need a safe place, they mostly come via the police.
Their web-site if full of inspiring and heart breaking stories. I’ll share a few of them with you now, but I would also recommend that you check out their new web-site.
In April Amecet purchased a block of land that they will be raising cattle on and growing maize and sweet potatoes. They plan to grow the crops for Amecet, and also to sell. Two of their cows are already pregnant and there is also the possibility to keep chickens for their eggs, or even to keep pigs.
They have already built the fence and gate around the property and one of their neighbours cleared and ploughed the land for them. The Amecet staff went on a study tour to a local Cowfarm so as to learn more about raising and milking of the cattle.
Some of the most heart breaking stories from their ministry are the deaths of children in their care, or who they have cared for. Many of these children are orphans, in very rough shape when brought to Amacet, or are infected with the HIV virus.
Recently a lovely 13-year old girl named Betty, who was HIV+, passed away. This is a bit of how they wrote it on their web-site.
In 2016 Betty was with us and left to go back home, very happy and very healthy. Betty was HIV+ and her father and stepmother would care for her at home. But this year she came back, brought by another organisation, which works in the village with HIV+ children. We tried, but I think that Betty was already too sick. And when she became more sick, Betty gave up, I think.
When we came in Amecet today, the staff had already prayed with her (Betty). Betty was restless, a bit scared as well. Mary and I were just sitting with her, holding her hand, touching her, and telling her that it was okay, that we loved her, she became more peaceful. There was a moment that her room mate Harriet came in the room. At first a bit scared, but then she also stroked her head. It was so special, Harriet told her that God knows it all … We had both tears in our eyes.
The moment of her last breath came fast, she was very peaceful and just stopped breathing… It was sad and also special moment, to be there together with Mary, with this precious girl, who had gone to her Father!

Bible’s for Costa Rica Update
Last episode I shared with you about the Bible’s for Costa Rica ministry, including playing you some audio from their web-site. After recording and listening through the episode I realised that the data I had was from 2014, so I reached out to YWAM in Costa Rica for an update and I heard back from them with some really encouraging news …
Right now YWAM Costa Rica have distributed over 210,000 Bibles in the whole country!
They are diligently working at distributing more so that the goal of every home in the nation can have a Bible, but they have told me that they need help …
Currently they are out of Bibles. It takes about 2-months for them to receive new Bibles, but have asked for your prayers for more finances so they can purchase more Bibles, that the Bibles would come as soon as possible. They have teams lined up, wanting to distribute Bibles, but they need the Bibles to distribute, as well as more teams to help with the distribution as the Bibles become available.
I want to encourage you to pray for YWAM Costa Rica and their desire to distribute God’s Word to every home in the nation. You should also check out their web-site, ywampuertoviejo.org, and see how you might be able to help with the distribution or the purchase of the Bibles.

Using Sports for Missions
Recently Peter Brownhill, the director of YWAM Perth here in Australia, answered a few questions for us.
- Why do you think people are drawn to sports?
- Are you aware of any ministries that use sports for evangelism?
You can find out more about YWAM Perth’s sports related ministry at ywamperth.org.au.
YWAM Ships and PNG
YWAM Ships Australia has been doing some exceptional work in Papua New Guinea. Recently they help a large advocacy event at their centre in Townsville.
Read more about the event here.
YWAM Ships in Papua New Guinea has achieved many of their goals. 25 per cent of the outreach program participants and volunteers are now Papua New Guineans, and YWAM is continuing to work closely with the PNG Health Department and provincial governments.
In addition to the tens of thousands of patients each year, the PNG and YWAM Partnership includes:
- Improving immunisation coverage
- Providing sight-restoration surgery, enabling thousands of people to have vision for the first time
- Installing solar lights at health facilities
- Ensuring that there are available medical supplies
- Offering family planning options in remote areas, saving the lives of women and children
- Eradicating thousands of excruciating toothaches and equipping rural health workers to take on emergency tooth extractions
- Providing training to improve access to clean water for the PNG people
- Partnerships with PNG communities to deliver short land based training courses to thousands of people in remote areas keen to play a role in improving the livelihoods of PNG communities
The YWAM Ships Australia ministry to PNG is very exciting, and you can read more about it on the YWAM Ships Australia web-site, ywamships.org.au.

A recent articles talking about the cultural practice of some indigenous tribes in Brazil to kill their own children reminded me of the story of Hakani, and the YWAM Missionaries who have tirelessly dedicated themselves to stopping the practice of child killings.
On the next episode we will explore the work that Youth With A Mission and other’s are doing to eradicate the killing of children in the Amazon
