YWAM Games Outreach!

The Games are coming to Paris from July 21 to August 11, and YWAM will be there to share the gospel and the love of Christ. YWAMers and the body of Christ both in France and around the world are invited to come to impact the nations in Paris this summer.

Paris Je t’Aime will be three weeks of live open-air events, worship nights, and acts of service in collaboration with local and international partners to inspire believers, connect ministries and make known the love of God over Paris.

YWAM has participated in Olympic outreaches almost since it began. Here is a report about some of the exciting things that happened during the 2012 London Games …

There is still an opportunity to join in, and be a part of the Outreach to the 2024 Paris Games. You can head on over to ywamparisjetaime.com to find out how you can be a part of this opportunity.

YWAM Les Cayes Facility Update

YWAM Les Cayes does not have access to an electricity grid, and needs to be able supply their own power at all hours. They are setup with a solar system, but that does not provide any power at night. YWAM Les Cayes has a battery setup to provide them with power at night, but they are currently needing to upgrade their system and replace 16 of their batteries, at a cost of $250 each.

In addition to upgrading their electrical system, they are also building a new building with storage facilities, service depot, hospitality area, and classroom.

You can follow their progress, and watch a video about their construction, on their Facebook Page.

YWAM Saint Marc Trade School Update

Also in Haiti, we have an update from YWAM Saint Marc.

The trade school has been running, despite the unrest still in the country. They are doing training in plumbing, tile setting, sewing, braiding, dread locks, and cooking.

This year the trade school has over 550 students enrolled, in 16 different classes that will be offered throughout the year.

The cost of the school per student is very low ($20 US) for four months of training. This is subsidized through donations towards the running of the trade school.

You can find out more on the YWAM Saint March web-site, ywamstmarchaiti.org.

YWAM San Francisco Showers

One of the ministries that YWAM San Francisco provides to the homeless in the Tenderloin District in San Francisco is fresh showers. Steve will tell us a bit about the ministry, and some of the impact that is has for the people they serve.

This month they discovered water damage to the showers and they needed to repair them so they could continue to offer that service to the people. Thank fully they were able to raise the funds quickly, and the showers have been repaired, and started to be used again this week.

YWAM An Cuan – Foundations for Christian Peacebuilding

In January we shared with you about the Foundations for Christian Peacebuilding that YWAM An Cuan was running in Northern Ireland in May and November. The report from their May school is …

Our first-ever Foundations for Christian Peacebuilding school has come to a close! What a fantastic 2 weeks of diving deeper into what reconciliation looks like with God, ourselves, and those around us. Together we wrestled with the question, what does the gospel say to the hurt in our world today? How do we find hope for our world through a worldview of peace? Some of the highlights of our time included a trip to Belfast to visit All Nations Belfast, our practical conflict mediation night, visiting Holy Cross Monastery, and learning about our humanity with Aleck Cartwright, the International Dean for YWAM’s University of the Nations. (source)

The dates for the November school has changed from when we originally spoke about it, and is now running from November 10 – 22, and is described as “A 2-week mini-school exploring Peace, Justice, and Reconciliation.

Children’s Books for the Unreached

While I was reading about the Create International Mobile/Media4Movements training team story for this episode, I came across a course that they offer called the “Children’s Books for the Unreached”.

In this online course, student will learn how to write and/or illustrate high-quality, biblically-based, picture storybooks in a way that makes the Gospel of Jesus relevant and familiar to children in their own culture. This course is focused on producing illustrated storybooks for children among the unreached people groups of the world.

Here is a story from one of the previous courses that they ran:

The next CBU will be run in September 2024, and you can find out more over at createseeds.org.

Hunting Discipleship Course – YWAM New Zealand

YWAM Nelson is running their Hunting Discipleship Course from 14 October to 8 November.

The course is tailored for people wanting to learn the basics of hunting while at the same time growing in their faith alongside like minded people! It also provides an opportunity to get amongst some of New Zealand’s most extreme wilderness, and to learn the skills of finding and stalking game in that environment.

The hunting discipleship course is a 4 week course offering you a unique mix of discipleship, teaching and hunting. It offers the opportunity to grow in your walk with Jesus while at the same time learning how to identify, hunt and harvest wild game with like-minded friends. As part of the course each student will complete a HUNTS training course qualification which is run in association with the New Zealand Deer Stalkers Association.

The course will be happening in Nelson, on the South Island of New Zealand, with the weekends spent deep in the hills and mountains of New Zealand.

Island Reach Medical Ship Update

Last month we shared an update about the Island Reach vessel, which has completed it’s refit, and is almost ready to be deployed to Madagascar. Since that update we have received a further update from Elaine Leakey, the YWAM Ships Switzerland President, about plan for deploying the vessel.

With the Suez Canal opening back up YWAM Ships Switzerland is no longer considering needing to piggy-back the vessel around the Southern tip of Africa, and instead is planning on transiting the vessel under it’s own power through the Suez Canal, and onto Madagascar, via the Seychelles. This way of getting the Island Reach to it’s destination will save over £200,000 in transit costs, but they will still need to raise £80,000 to complete the delivery.

The team from YWAM Ships Switzerland has been researching where to be based on the Island of Madagascar, and at the moment they are looking at possibly establishing themselves in Mahajanga as their home port. Mahajanga is located on the West coast of the island, and is Madagascar’s second port. This should provide great opportunities for partnering with the national maritime academy, and allow them access to many isolated communities that have very little medical services for the poor to access.

You can continue to follow along with the deployment of the Island Reach on the YWAM Ships – Switzerland Facebook Page.
