Stories:

YWAM Solomons Sailboat Project

Earlier this year YWAM Solomons commissioned and launched the VAKA HOP’E, which means the ship of hope.

YWAM Solomons has a vision to use sailboats to reach the most isolated islands with practical aid through locals trained with community development tools.

The ship is a 38 foot sailing catamaran, made from epoxy, wood, and rope, which will make it easier to maintain and repair in the islands. The design actually originates from the Solomon Islands, and is ideally set-up so that in addition to the original vessels, others will be able to be built and maintained in the islands.

YWAM Ships Aotearoa Redeployed to Fiji

The m/v YWAM Koha is getting ready to set sail for their 2023 deployment back into the Pacific next month.

From May through to October, the m/v YWAM KOHA will be up in Fiji, empowering a healthy future for the Fijian people by providing health and dental services free of charge while working to remove the barriers between individuals and the care they need.

Pacific Hope Amazon Outreach

Plans for the Amazon Outreach are well under-way and we need general volunteers, doctors, nurses, dentists, dental assistants, individuals or groups.

The outreaches to the Amazon provide relief in three main areas:

  • Medical
  • Construction
  • Education

For the outreaches they are looking for people to come for a week or more to the Amazon. There will be medical and dental clinics, Bible distribution, children’s ministries, and community outreach as needed. In addition to the need for medical professionals, they are need people with multiple skillsets. It takes many hands to run a ship ministry, so your greatest asset is a passion to help others.

Check out the Amazon Reach web-site, marinereachglobal.org/amazon-outreach, to find out how you could volunteer.

YWAM Ships Philippines Medical Outreach

YWAM Ships’ Medical Outreach to Palawan begans in the small barangay of Ipilan. Over the next few days, thousands of health services, millions of pesos worth of food, clothing and pharmaceuticals will be delivered along with bibles and training.

A core team of volunteers with YWAM Ships Philippines hosts a 100-strong, multi-sectoral medical outreach to meet the practical and spiritual needs of disadvantaged, isolated coastal people of the Philippines. YWAM Ships’ goal is holistic community development. Their method is one of mobilization through a concept called “Bayanihan” – a Tagalog word that refers to a spirit of communal unity and cooperation, serving without expectation of anything in return.

Mercy Air Helicopter in Mozambique

Mercy Air’s helicopter has arrived in Marromeu in Mozambique and they are there to serve the people in the Zambezi Delta over the next 10 days!

With everything going on in the world, the news about Cyclone Freddy hitting the nation of Mozambique went unknow to many, including unfortunately myself …

Cyclone Freddy crashed into Mozambique causing severe flooding and damaging many homes in Marromeu, including those in the vulnerable elderly and children’s programmes that YWAM operates. Walls fell down, roofs leaked, and the water rose, both inside and outside.

Unfortunately some of the elderly widows and their grandchildren that the YWAM location takes care of lost their houses. They need to raise $13,000 to build a new row of 4 houses and latrines.

YWAM Manicaland Recovery Program

YWAM Manicaland in Zimbabwe runs a six-month addiction recovery program …

Operation Christmas Child distribution with YWAM Calbayog

YWAM Calbayog was blessed to see the work that Samaritan’s Purse is doing and their program with Operation Christmas Child (OCC).

They were grateful to receive teaching materials and gift boxes from OCC, which last week they distributed to 2 of their kids ministry locations.

The YWAM team started the first teaching of the many sessions the had and the kids received their gift box. They were so grateful for this opportunity and for the generous heart to all the people who make boxes to share their love to the children across the world!

As YWAM staff they were so happy and blessed seeing the children receive a gift and learn about God and the greatest gift of all that we received from him, Jesus Christ!

A YWAM mission team trekked into the Himalayas equipped with SD cards, each containing gospel films and audio Bibles in the heart language of the people of Nepal. They distributed the SD cards and made plans to soon trek back down the mountain. But the day they were due to leave, a blizzard hit and they were snowed in.

Pray for Hong Kong

Every month YWAMers from around the world join together to pray and hear from God. This month we prayed for Hong Kong.

Hong Kong is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, drawing people from all around the world with its unique combination of Asian and Western culture. However, of the 7.6 million people living in this bustling city, only 13 percent profess to be Christian and there are 10 unreached people groups residing there. Hong Kong is now in a “Kairos” time when the need for missionaries to spread the good news is vital for its future. Hong Kong has opened its doors to the world again after a difficult time over the pandemic and other issues, but unlike never before Hong Kong is ready for the gospel! There are many opportunities for individuals and teams to come serve.

Ways to pray:

  • Pray for people to come to Hong Kong
  • Pray against hopelessness, addictions and suicides among the children and youth
  • Pray that the churches of Hong Kong would work in unity
  • Pray for initiatives that reach the poor and for awareness in all spheres of society to alleviate poverty and income disparity

You can visit ywam.org/theinvitation to read the full letter and to find out ways that you can take action, or sign up for updates for future prayer efforts.
