Pope Francis Passing

Pope Francis died on Monday at the age of 88 after 12 years as head of the Roman Catholic Church.

Pastor Alejandro Rodríguez, president of Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Argentina, referred to Jorge Mario Bergoglio as “a pastor with the smell of sheep,” because he was always among the people and their needs.

Pope Francis had a long relationship with Youth With A Mission. The YWAM director, Alejandro Rodríguez, first met Francis more than 20 years ago, when Francis was called Cardinal Bergoglio and served the church as the archbishop of Buenos Aires. They had a continued friendship from that point, and often prayed together.

In 2014 Loren and Darlene Cunningham had the privilege of meeting Pope Francis while they were in Rome. At the time Pope Francis had taken the unprecedented initiative to distribute Gospels of Mark to everyone in Saint Peter’s Square while proclaiming, “[Let there be] a Bible in every family! A Bible in every family! It mustn’t be hidden, not put on a shelf, but [we should] take it in our hand, to read it often, every day, be it individually or together, husband and wife, parents and children, perhaps in the evening, especially on Sunday. Thus, the family grows, walks, with the light and strength of the Word of God!”.

One of Loren Cunningham’s final legacy messages, and final book before he passed away was to End Bible Poverty. In that we can see a meeting of God’s heart in their meeting.

We can all pray that God’s Hand would guide the Catholic Church in their selection of a new Pope.

5 Island Outreach in Uganda

End Bible Poverty now in Uganda recently concluded their Outreach in 5 Islands on Lake Victoria.

They did church seminars, outdoor crusades, door to door evangelism, children ministry and their heart ministry which is to see everyone have a Bible in their mother tongue. For 5 days their team, together with a DTS team from YWAM Kona, reached out to the islands of Labolo, Namiti, Kirewe, Makhalaga, and Lubia.

After wrapping up their time in Lake Victoria the team continued for 2 weeks in the Western part of Uganda (Bushenyi) to make known of the good news of Jesus, and to continue distributing Bible.

They ask that we praying in this busy season, that the Lord will help them through to the end of this mission.

They are open to receive more teams that are willing to come work with them Uganda.

You can check out their Facebook page for more stories from their outreach, and you can also send them a message to find out how you might be able to work with them.

NIKO Celebrates 40 years!

YWAM NIKO celebrates their 40th anniversary this year!

NIKO comes from the Greek and is pronounced “nee-ko.” It means, “to subdue, conquer, overcome, or get the victory.”

A NIKO lets you learn in the classroom of life by “doing” instead of only listening. It will challenge you in your personal walk with God and others, through hands-on experiences.

Here is one persons experience with their NIKO.

David’s Tent Protests

Unfortunately during pro-Palestinian protests in Washington DC in early April the David’s Tent ministry was targeted for protests. Here is a message from them about the incident:

On Saturday April 5th there was Pro-Palestine activist protest against us, specifically for the Israel flag hanging inside of David’s Tent DC.

The protesters group of about 50 people was a spin off of a larger Pro Palestinian protest on Pennsylvania Avenue. Over a dozen police vehicles and about 20 police responded quickly and stood guard, keeping the protest at a perimeter of about 30 feet from the tent. The protesters tried to dispute that. The Park Police held their ground (and our ground) as David’s Tent has a permit for that space for the cause of exalting Jesus and carrying out the planned programming of David’s Tent.

David’s Tent is permitted as a 1st Amendment demonstration for the purpose of a “worship and prayer vigil 24/7 unto Jesus on behalf of America.”

The protesters stood in a line shouting emphatically at the tent things like “Free Palestine” employing more explicit language often to underline their ire. Many of them were donning flags in support of their cause. The protest lasted about 2 hours until they peacefully began to disperse.

This is the first time in the 3,494 day history of David’s Tent that an organized protest has targeted us like this.

As protesters screamed outside the tent, inside the tent the worship team on watch kept right on singing to Jesus in a clear contrast and stark juxtaposition of attitude. After all was over, the tent staff took communion together and plead the blood of Jesus over all. The prayer meeting continued forward another watch! It all turned out to be not much of anything in the end.

We want to thank the Park Police for their incredible response and service. Thank you all for your prayers.

David’s Tent DC is a 24/7/365 musical prayer meeting, exalting Jesus, in the pattern of ancient Israel’s tabernacle of King David.
