Tragedy in Arusha Tanzania Update

Last month we reported about the death of 11 YWAM missionaries in a tragic bus accident in Arusha, Tanzania. We have this update from the team …

We are grateful for your prayers over these last two weeks since the Arusha Tragedy. We have felt your love from around the world, and have seen God’s hand guiding us through this.

We are happy to share that all of those injured in the accident are recovering well, and that my mid week all 11 remains have been repatriated back to the families spread out in eight countries, and all funerals will have been completed . We are grateful for the doctors and hospital staff in Arusha and elsewhere who have given great care to our dear friends. We ask that you continue to pray for the injured as they continue to recover and heal both in the hospital and at home. Some will require much longer in hospital, but after air vacs, have been completed, everyone is where they need to be now to receive their on going care.

Please continue to pray for the families and friends of our missionaries, those who are still recovering from their injuries, those who responded to the accident, and the many Y bases who have lost leaders as they grieve and find their next steps forward in both life and ministry without their beloved leaders.

View this video that will explain how we are planning to use all of the funds that have come in so far, to assist immediate, and long term needs and to be a blessing to the families and the children left behind.

YWAM Together 2024 in Manila, Philippines

YWAM’s first “family gathering” since 2018 will be happening in Manila, Philippines from September 2 – 6, 2024.

The next global YWAM gathering will be held in the heart of one of Asia’s megacities, in the capital of the beautiful and hospitable nation of the Philippines, Manila! This will be the first YWAM global staff gathering after the ‘Covid era’ and after the graduation of our founder, Loren Cunningham. We know we are in an important season as a mission and we are excited to be able to gather together as a YWAM family!

The gathering will be hosted at Christ’s Commission Fellowship Church (CCF) – home to one of the Philippines & Asia’s largest Church movements.

“All YWAM staff, students and associates are invited to reunite together in 2024.”

In line with a nationwide vision within the Body of Christ to reach the younger generation of Filipinos, YWAM outreach teams are being invited to stay on afterwards to partner together with local churches for outreach into schools.

YWAM in Haiti

There has been a lot of dramatic news coming out of Haiti in the last few weeks, including the resignation of the Prime Minister. Many of our locations in Haiti have been preparing for the unrest that they expected, including beefing up security and building walls and gates to their locations.

We have these relatively recent reports from four of our locations …

YWAM Les Cayes

YWAM Les Cayes finished their annual soccer tournament earlier this month, before the latest unrest really kicked off. It was a good time with their local community, and it brought together a lot of people for the tournament and ministry.

Earlier this month they completed the addition of their security gate, and during what they called the “calm before the upcoming storm”, they were busy collecting supplies, which included fuel for their vehicles and cooking.

YWAM Cap-Haiti

We would also like to ask that you would continue to keep Haiti and our ministry in Cap-Haitian in your prayers. With the gangs continuing to overtake more and more of Haiti it has caused food and gas shortages all over the nation. Which in tern, causes the food and gas that is available, to triple in price. For our ministry in Cap-Haitian we are grateful that at this point the area is peaceful and has not been affected by any gang violence. However, we currently have 45 people living in our base that we are needing to provide food, running water and electricity, but with this sharp price increase we are struggling to provide 3 meals a day and afford the gas needed to pump the running water for the staff and students in the base. Please pray for peace and stability for Haiti and that God would continue to show His faithfulness to our ministry during these uncertain times.

YWAM Saint Marc, Haiti

Last year YWAM Saint Marc completed building walls around their campus, which helps to provide greater security for the team that is there. They also ask to, “Please continue to pray with us for safety and protection over our city, campus and each student as we move forward. Things in Haiti are getting worse and darkness threatens to take over but we hope in the Lord. When He makes a way, we will continue to trust in His ways and not our own.”

YWA M Colorado Springs brings us this reminder to pray for Muslims during their holy month of Ramadan, which is from 11 March – 9 April this year.

YWAM Paisley Local Cleanup

A few months ago as YWAM we prayed for the important issue of “creation care”, which is being good stewards of the land that God has placed us on.

YWAM Paisley in Scotland is doing just that …

Here at YWAM Paisley, we emphasize the importance of caring for all of God’s creation. One of the ways we do this practically is by removing litter in local areas around Paisley. We partner with Team Up to Clean Up, an initiative by the Renfrewshire Council.
We want to serve our community by showing the people of Paisley the value that God has put in them and in their town.

Additionally, litter picking allows us to positively impact the environment by preventing plastic and other rubbish from disrupting the ocean and other natural ecosystems

It’s also really fun!

Dental Trailer in Port Moresby

We received this update from YWAM Medical Ships Australia and Papua New Guinea (YWAM MS).

Marking World Oral Health Day, YWAM Medical Ships Australia & Papua New Guinea (YWAM MS) is pleased to announce the resumption and expansion of school visits by the YWAM Dental Trailer, scheduled to commence next month.

During Term 2, the YWAM Dental Semi-Trailer and its dedicated team will visit three schools in Port Moresby; Sevese Morea Elementary & Primary School, Kila Kila Secondary School, and Carr Memorial Adventist School.

The upcoming outreach will provide essential oral health education sessions and distribute Colgate Bright Smiles Bright Futures packs (includes a toothbrush, toothpaste and educational flyer) to approximately 3,400 students.

Mr. John Wood, Managing Director of Colgate-Palmolive, expressed deep pride in their support of the program.

“In addition to supplying the Bright Smiles Bright Future packs, we are also offering financial support and facilitating the employment of a local dentist and dental therapist in the trailer.

“This not only meets a critical need but also provides valuable employment opportunities for Papua New Guinean dental professionals who have faced challenges in securing work,” stated Mr. Wood.

With a focus on aligning with WHO treatment standards, the Dental Trailer will provide treatment to students in grade prep, grade 5, and grade 9. Treatment services will encompass restorations, extractions, cleanings, and fluoride treatments.

Outfitted with three dental chairs and sterilization facilities, the dental semi-trailer is equipped to deliver comprehensive dental care services to the students.

Sound Quality

I apologize for the sound quality of my own voice. I found out after recording that my audio device driver was corrupt and adding distortion. Unfortunately I did not hear his while monitoring my voice, it only showed up in the recording. Next month should be better …

Heidebeek is spelled ei – NOT ai as you misspelled it as YWAM Haidebeek in the text under the Radiate His Light box and also in the bullet point in the email. (It is spelled correctly in the Radiate His Light box.) Correct spelling is important.
